CHP Start Smart Teen Driving Classes The California Highway Patrol's San Andreas office will host two free teen driver classes in February. The CHP has developed a program called Star Smart which is aimed at helping newly licensed and future licensed teenage drivers understand the critical responsibilities of driving and to understand that accidents do happen, but collisions and 100 percent preventable. This class will be held at 6:30P, Tuesday, Feb. 23 at Angels Camp Police Department and at 6:30P, Thursday, Feb. 25 at Mark Twain St. Joseph's Hospital. Reservations must be made via telephone or in person to the San Andreas CHP office at 754-3541. Space is limited and at least one parent or guardian is required to attend with their teen.

Art Spirit 2010 High School Juried Exhibition Please join us for the 13th annual High School Art Exhibit and Competition, March 13 to April 24, 2010, Mon.-Fri. 9A-4P and Sat. 11A-3P. Reception will be Saturday, March 13 from 1-3P. This event will be held at the Gallery Calaveras, 22 Main Street, San Andreas and featuring art created by our extremely talented local High School students. Refreshments will be served and awards presented. Some of the art will be for sale and includes photography, ceramics, paintings, printmaking, drawings, sculpture, mixed media and more. Snow Survival is Topic of 'Winter Adventure' The Summit Ranger District of the U.S. forest Service and the Pinecrest Nordic Ski Patrol will offer a free "Winter Adventure snow safety program from 10A to 12N on Sunday, February 21st. This program is geared toward families and individuals interested in having fun or getting exercise in the snow while learning about winter safety. Celtic History Day For Schools and Families the Celtic History Day is back. Come join us for a day of “oohs” and “ahhs” as students and families from around the state gather at the Sonora Fairgrounds. Step back into a time of romance, adventure, and even a bit of magic, all while learning about the Celtic culture and history. It all happens on Friday March 12th, 2010 from 9am-2pm. The fee is $5 per student, teachers and chaperons $7 and money is due by February 19th. Due to the event being open to the public we ask that you keep a good adult/student ratios of at least 1 to 8 when possible. This event is open to the public, but for school groups we have discounted the price for adults and will check in pre-registered schools before the gates open to the public. If you don’t pre-register adults will have to pay the gate priceof $10 to get in .

The California Association of Professional Scientists (CAPS) is pleased to announce that the 22nd Annual State Scientist Day will be held on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 on the west steps of the State Capitol. CAPS designates this day to increase public awareness and recognition of the significant contributions made by scientists who work for state government.
