FAFSA Information
The Cash for College flyer below has dates that you can attend workshops (with your parents) to receive help filling in your FAFSA.

By attending, you can also qualify for an extra $1,000 SCHOLARSHIP!

High school seniors — attend a Cash for College workshop, complete an exit survey, apply for a Cal Grant by the March 2 deadline, and you could qualify for an extra $1,000 incentive scholarship! Students eligible for instate tuition assistance (AB 540) may also qualify for the incentive scholarship.

The FAFSA covers state (Cal) and federal (Pell) grants which can help you pay for college or trades. Grants are different from loans, in that they are given to you for school expenses and tuition and are not paid back like a loan. As long as you keep you grade point average at C and above and take a minimum of 6 units - usually 2 classes - you can often times qualify for these grants. The amount that you can receive depends on family size and income. A higher GPA will also help you receive more grant money, like the Cal Grant A Competitive Award.

By filling in the FAFSA by the March 2nd due date, you can be eligible for both Cal and Pell grants.

ROP Classes
Mt Oaks students can attend the ROP programs at Calaveras High or at Bret Harte. Classes include automotive, drafting, medical assisting and cosmetology. Most programs do not take high school students until they are 16 years old or junior and seniors, but the drafting and the automotive program will take teens in their freshman year.

Hours vary:
The cosmetology program is very intensive and requires all day attendance five days a week for 9 months.
The automotive program meets on Monday and then either morning or afternoon for an hour or so Tues./Thurs. or Wed./Fri.

These programs start in July, so you have to be willing to start before the Mt. Oaks school year (no exceptions).

Volunteer Opportunities for Future Medical Students
